Fiat Chrysler Violations

On May 23, 2017, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a complaint against FCA US LLC, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., V.M. Motori S.p.A., and V.M. North America, Inc. (collectively referred to as FCA) for alleged violations of the Clean Air Act including installing defeat devices in model year 2014-2016 diesel Ram 1500s and Jeep Grand Cherokees sold in the United States.

Through a civil settlement with the United States and California, FCA will modify the emission control software in these vehicles with the intent of bringing the vehicles into compliance with EPA and California emission standards to which they were originally certified. The Approved Emissions Modification (AEM) will be available free of charge to all vehicle owners and lessees at authorized Ram and Jeep dealerships. Average fuel economy is not expected to change as a result of the AEM installation.
